Organizations get kids ready for school

Several local organizations have been busy helping kids get ready to head back to school.
The Mentoring Center of Coshocton County hosted a clothing drive to gather items for children in the Bigs/Littles and Side by Side program. Hygiene products, school supplies and backpacks also were collected.
Women of Witness and New Beginnings Ministries also helped make sure children had the supplies they needed to go back to school. Women of Witness distributed school supplies and book bags and New Beginnings Ministries hosted a back to school fair that included back bags, school supplies, clothing and haircuts.
Children headed to school for the first time learned how to stay safe at the American Red Cross and United Way of Coshocton County sponsored Safety City, which was held Aug. 6-10, at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds.

The program was for children entering kindergarten and featured 911 training, gun safety, lessons on pedestrian rules and street signs, fire safety, stranger danger, playground safety, dog safety, poison safety and many other lessons that will help keep them safe.
