Local Bounty update

| October 24, 2013

Good morning all – Our vendors look forward to providing their goods to you every market week. Wednesdays and Thursday mornings are very busy for many of us – baking, harvesting (washing and packaging) produce, restocking meat supplies, washing eggs, etc. But, we do it because we love it. We thank you for obviously enjoying it too and allowing us the opportunity to feed you and your family/friends every week.

Here’s what some of our vendors will have in store for you this week:

Cookies, Cupcakes -N- Such (available Friday)

Hi, I’m Katie Hultz and I’m a passionate baker here in Coshocton. My baking hobby has gone wild and therefore I decided to share creative treats with everyone through Local Bounty. I’ve taken my crafting interest to the baking level and will make a detailed treat that not only looks good, but is baked fresh and will be pleasing to your taste buds, as well. I understand that there are many wonderful bakers in the area, and maybe you have a special cupcake recipe that you love to make, but just may need a little extra detail to put it over the top. I have some special edible and non-edible creations to help you out with that, as well…no matter what the occasion. I like to call my “business” Cookies, cupcakes and such,” the such meaning that there is so much more. This Friday, I’ll have HOPE Breast Cancer awareness cookies, Halloween cookies, and some decorating sugars for those who want to make their own cookies. And, a few other decos for cookies and cupcakes, as well.

Hall – RB – Hill

We are stocking our shelves for the market week with crumble top apple pies, focaccia bread, wine jelly and golden delicious apples.

Keene Creek Farm

We cooked up a batch of Sausage Kale Soup for you all to sample at the market today. Come in, grab a cup and warm your belly a little. It will only be available while we’re working the store though (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). The soup features ingredients from four of our food vendors. Kale from Strawberry Hill, whole milk from Wholesome Valley, onions and garlic from Mill Creek Homestead and sausage from our farm. The car is also loaded down with lots of crunchy Romaine and tender fall salad greens, both harvested last night. And, we will have restocked our pizza and bread dough mixes by opening.

Rosemary’s Baked Goods

We know you’re all missing Rosemary’s bread, cookies, pies, etc. But, she is still recovering from knee replacement surgery. She’ll be back to baking for you as soon as she can.

Thousand Hill Acres LLC

Good beautiful and crisp morning! The past two weeks have been very busy and productive around the farm. Jan has been busy with designing a cattle handling system that is both cost effective and able to be added to as our herd size increases. Mark has been busy with cutting and splitting fire; wood as the cooler weather has set in, we are sure to be burning by the time this update is sent out to you all. Our pigs are doing great and are ready to move to their winter pasture as the summer pasture is on a North facing slope (too cold for winter grazing of pigs). Our freezer at Local Bounty has been restocked after a huge sale week last week. So be sure to check out our selection in the large upright freezer furthest from the entrance.

Windy Hill Berry Farm

It has been an unusually busy week here on the farm. Cleaning out old growing beds, and planting our winter cover crops. These cover crops allow us to start growing next spring without using commercial non-organic fertilizers. We refer to these cover crops as green manure. These cover crops also provide a kind of blanket for the soil. In the produce bins at Local Bounty you will find green tomatoes (good for frying or making relish) and Beauregard sweet potatoes (a great favorite on the Thanksgiving table). We have also been busy inside as well making a new flavor of jam, Sugar Plum Fairy, with a hint of vanilla and spices. This one is not too sweet and tastes great spread on one of our toasted English Muffins, available in regular or multigrain. Again, something different…be adventurous and try one for a new taste.

Local Bounty Coshocton, LLC is located at 22951 S.R. 83 N. Store hours are: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
