| October 28, 2013

Martha Shaffer (nee McGrevey), 83, born July 23, 1930 passed away October 26, 2013 at home surrounded in love by her husband Allen “Corky” and daughters Jill (Joseph Zarr) and Jan (Robert Wilhoite).  She was preceded in death by parents William and Hilda (Whitis) McGrevey and Sister Rhoda (Smailes).  She had 3 grandchildren and 4 great grand-children; all will miss her caring ways.

Martha enjoyed a life of hard work serving others.  She was very adventurous and never once thought something was impossible.  In her 20’s she had obtained her modeling goal from Paige Models, married her high school sweetheart and started Corky’s Truck Stop.  While working 24/7 at the Truck Stop as manager, waitress and cook, she had her first child and built their first home.  Soon after having her second child, she helped design, build and manage the Sleepy Lane Motel; where she was receptionist, booking agent, housekeeper, chef, social director, lawn maintenance, mother and wife.  Many of the Motel guest stayed long-term and could always count on Martha to make them feel part of the family.

Martha later moved to the dentistry profession as dental assistant and office manager for Dr. James McConnell and later Dr. Brian Dunlap.  She also was a business owner who flipped houses and had a private commercial and home decorating business.  When she retired she assumed the role of Property Manager of the Oaks.

Martha loved tea with her friends, cooking, entertaining, fashion and home decorating.   She had many great stories and fond memories of Coshocton.  Whatever Martha did, she did with perfection and success.  She was loved and will be greatly missed by the many hearts she touched throughout her life.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, October 30th from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main Street, Coshocton with a memorial service to begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Irwin Jennings officiating.   A luncheon in her honor will be held immediately following at Park United Methodist Church, 122 Park Ave.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Health Services of Coshocton County “Hospice” and/or Park United Methodist Church, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  An online memorial is located at www.themillerfuneralhome.com.
