Local Bounty update
Good morning Local Bounty Shoppers – We hope all of you have made it through the brutal cold temperatures we had this week again. Maybe you made some tea? A pot of chili? Sometimes the cold forces us to just be still. So, if you were forced to do just that, hopefully you enjoyed it as much as some of us did.
Now, onto our vendor updates – some of our vendors have *new* and returning items.
Hall – RB – Hill
This week we will have Honey Whole Wheat, Herby Whole Wheat, and White bread loaves, they are perfect for making sandwiches. I will also have Swiss Braid and look for salad croutons on Friday. I will be in the market 2-6 stop by and say HI!
Keene Creek Farm – Rowdi & Marissa Mullett
Peppered bacon. Canadian bacon. Cheese brats. They’re all back in stock this week (along with more mild Italian brats and little piggies – our breakfast links). Marissa and the girls also decided to do some special cooking for Valentine’s Day. They carefully crafted some Dark Chocolate Fudge with Sea Salt. It is absolutely decadent. It will only be available for a limited time. You can probably imagine what challenges the below freezing temperatures bring with them when it comes to caring for livestock. But, we’ve all made it. Our critters have warm places to bed down, water to drink and plenty of food to fill their bellies. What more could you ask for? Well, besides greener pastures and warmer winds. *sigh*
Ridgeview Farms – Duane Stutzman & Mary Stutzman
Hello All Local Bounty friends! As we join the local group, I would like to thank those that have been so kind in allowing us to be apart of this wonderful organization! Thanks to Windy Hill Farm, we recently were able expand our farm and we are excited as we continue to grow. At Ridgeview Farms we are dedicated to providing not only a superior product where freshness and quality are never compromised, but one you can always trust on. Our free range poultry are nestled in the rolling hills of Coshocton County, and we strive to meet and exceed our customers needs. We are confident that you will enjoy a high quality, safe and wholesome egg, where quality assurance is guaranteed. We are a small local producer of free range poultry and have brown eggs year round produced by our wonderful Golden Comet Hens. During the warmer months we raise fresh, pasture raised turkeys and chickens, alongside Ringneck Pheasants. Hopefully we will be able to provide these meat products for you down the road, later this year. Thanks again for allowing us to be a part of this wonderful organization.
Salad Bar Farms – Levi & Clara Nisley
We will have salad greens at Local Bounty again this week. What a treat they will be in this weather. Thanks for your patience as we worked through some greenhouse complications. We will have more kale in the weeks to come – but for now, just some greens!
Windy Hill Berry Farm
Taking advantage of being snowed in/frozen in, and also because President’s Day is looming in February, the farm has baked up some Chocolate Chip Cherry bread. It was a popular bread of ours last year and is made with fresh sweet cherries we pitted and chopped ourselves. Looking ahead to Friday, we will be dropping off some more Bon Jour Blackberry Jam, made with blackberries off of our farm and Triple Sec, a French liqueur that adds a slight orange flavor. Try it on some of Rosemary’s or Hall-RB-Hill’s homemade bread–yum!
Comfort Food Cook-Off: Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This event will be rescheduled. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Cookie Decorating Class with Katie Hultz: Sunday, Feb. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. (only six seats left)
Want to learn how to decorate cookies like a pro for Valentine’s Day? Here’s your chance. Katie Hultz, our professional (but don’t ask her, she’ll deny it) cookie baker/decorator, is willing to share some tips and techniques (including how to apply edible transfers) with you in an upcoming class. Class space is limited, so be sure to register as soon as you know you want to participate. Please, no participants under the age of 15. Class fee is $20 and will include cookies and some decorating supplies.
Hope to see you all at the market this week. Oh, and if you swing in Thursday afternoon-ish, you can meet our newest market manager, Amy Shaw. Welcome aboard Amy. We’re so glad you found us.
