Joan Simmons Picture for paperJoan K. Simmons, 81, of West Lafayette, passed away at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital on Sunday February 16, 2014.  Joan was born to the late Fred L. and Evelyn R. (Galion) Barth in Adams Twp., Coshocton County on February 22, 1932.  She was employed at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital for 40 years as a nursing assistant.  Whether through her job or family and friends, giving is what she did the best.  Joan also enjoyed watching OSU football and basketball.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family.  When you walked into Joan’s house, food on the table was a welcoming sight.  She is survived by her two sons Jeff (Diane) Simmons of Reynoldsburg, OH and Greg (Gail) Simmons of Whitehouse, TX; a sister Beverly Fischer of Coshocton; brother Neal (Marianne) Barth of New Albany, OH; grandchildren Sarah (Joe) Holzbauer, Sam (Mindy) Simmons, Ashley Cabot, Josh Simmons and Jason Dempsey; great grandchildren Lily Holzbauer, Avery Holzbauer, Charlie Cabot and Natalie Simmons; several nieces and nephews.  Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Richard R. Simmons who passed away on November 30, 2006; and a grandson Brian.  Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Wednesday February 19, 2014 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.  Funeral services for Joan will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Chris Cutshall officiating.  Interment will follow in Fairfield Cemetery, West Lafayette.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Health Services of Coshocton County “Hospice” and/or Coshocton County Animal Shelter, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  An online memorial is located at www.themillerfuneralhome.com .
