Eighth graders sing final concert with Coshocton Children’s Choir

COSHOCTON — Twelve eighth grade singers will perform in their final concert with The Coshocton Children’s Choir on Sunday, April 27 at the Coshocton Community Choir’s Wondrous Love concert. The Children’s Choir, sponsored by the Coshocton Community Choir, includes area students in grades four through eight. Charles R. Snyder directs the Children’s Choir.
Singers graduating from the Children’s Choir this season include: Hallee Anderson, Emily Casey, Kaitlyn Clark, Hannah Jacobs, Lauren Johnson, Halley Jones, Christa Lain, Xavier Lewis, Madison Miller, Rowan Roberts, Rachel Roman, and Quinn Wherley.
Lauren Johnson is at eighth grader at River View Junior High and she has been singing in the Coshocton Children’s Choir for five years.
“I started singing in the choir originally because my mom thought it would be a good thing for me to do,” she said, “and then I really have enjoyed it. I would encourage any young singer to try out for this choir. I have made new friends and have gotten really close with everyone.”
Lauren says she plans to try out next year for the Coshocton Youth Chorale.
Hallee Anderson is also an eighth grader at River View Junior High and this was her first year to sing in the Coshocton Children’s Choir.
“I love it,” she said. “It’s an amazing group. My choir director, Dawn Anglin, encouraged me to try out for this choir.”
Anderson says that she would encourage any junior high singer to consider trying out for the Children’s Choir.
“Just because you are in seventh or eighth grade doesn’t mean you are too old to become a part of this choir,” she said. “This choir gives you a lot of additional musical background, so I feel it can really help prepare you for other choirs such as ones in high school.”
Christa Lain is in eighth grade at Coshocton Junior High and this is her fifth year to sing in the Children’s Choir.
“My family is very musical, I love singing, and many of my family members have been in this choir—so it was a natural for me to want to be in this choir,” she said. “Mr. Snyder is an awesome choir director and I have truly loved being a part of this choir.”
Lain says she feels she has grown quite a bit both musically and in life skills due to the Children’s Choir.
“When I was little, I was very shy and was afraid to get up in front of people,” she said. “But being in this choir has really helped me to get over that. Plus, you’d be surprised how much of a positive impact singing has on your life, so if you love singing, make sure you let yourself do it.”
Quinn Wherely is a River View Junior High eighth grader and he has also sung in the Children’s Choir for five years.
“I feel a little upset that this is my last year in the Children’s Choir,” said Wherely, “but I have new hopes since I plan to try out for the Youth Chorale next year.”
Wherely says he would definitely recommend this choir to others. “It is a really good experience where you get to learn new songs, meet new people, and it helps you prepare for the future,” he said. “And I would really encourage young singers to consider this choir. We can always use more good singers.”
The Coshocton Children’s Choir will perform during the Coshocton Community Choir’s Spring Concert Wondrous Love on Sunday, April 27, at 3 p.m. at Coshocton High School’s McKinley Auditorium. The concert will also feature the adult choir and the Youth Chorale.
