Commonwealth Americana hosting fundraiser for museum
COSHOCTON – The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum and Commonwealth Americana invite the public to a special fundraiser on May 1, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. In honor of its first year anniversary, Commonwealth Americana has commissioned a new edition of William Roscoe’s The Butterfly’s Ball and the Grasshopper’s Feast from the Letterpress Studio at Oberlin College. The book will be released at this time. For a minimum donation of $10 each, 100 hand-numbered copies will be sold, with 100% of the proceeds to benefit the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum. Also at the event, a silent auction will be held for the first numbered edition.
The Butterfly’s Ball and the Grasshopper’s Feast is a hand-bound letterpress edition of the much-loved 1807 children’s book by William Roscoe (1753 -1831). The new edition combines Roscoe’s original delightful rhyming poem with new, hand-colored woodblock prints designed and executed by Oberlin College students who participated in Oberlin’s letterpress program in January 2014. An example of the book is available to view at Commonwealth Americana at Kiefer’s Florist Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. beginning April 15, where copies may be reserved. Commonwealth Americana is located at 381 Hill Street, Coshocton.
This event is free. Complementary light refreshments will be served. The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum is located in Historic Roscoe Village at 300 N. Whitewoman Street, Coshocton. For more information, contact the museum at 622-8710 or by e-mail jhmuseum@jhmuseum.org.
