Grateful. Thankful. Appreciative. Humbled. These are just a few of the words that come to mind as The Beacon celebrates our sixth anniversary this week – and begins publishing Volume 7, with this being issue Number 1. Six years of continuously publishing The Beacon have rolled around pretty fast as the saying goes. Like many of the small businesses in our community, those years have had their share of ups and downs. Perhaps it was a blessing that we started in 2008 – right before the oft cited economic calamity that hit our community, state and most of the country. Those days seem to be behind us – but as an author I read recently so poignantly phrased it, “Success is never owned, it is only rented and the rent is due every day.” That certainly rings true for us here at The Beacon.
We strive to publish a quality paper each and every week – knowing in advance that there are events we can’t get to, or cover with the breadth and depth they deserve. There are many well deserving people and organizations that do their best to help move this community forward every day. The volunteer base alone in Coshocton County could fill volumes as these big hearted people do their best to help serve in their chosen field.
This week’s edition contains a special section called “Remember When”, and it represents a look back at our community that should be a fun read and opportunity to reminisce for many of our readers. We are grateful to the many people that helped make this section possible. You – and you know who you are – represent a group of people that helps make Coshocton County the great place that it is. Thanks.

Okay, I had to take a look at the major league baseball standings for this column. Wish I hadn’t. The Tribe, the Reds and the Pirates are all suffering so far this season. But the season is only twenty some games in and even being in last place is not by much. Thankfully.
Let’s turn our attention locally – remember to vote next Tuesday! Yep, May 6 is the primary with levies being the major local attention getter. You can read about the Coshocton City streets levy and the Career Center permanent improvements levy in this edition. There are also some village and township matters that you will be voting on. Exercise your right – get out and vote!
