Zanesville men win Coshocton Idol
Brad Fuller and Johnny Dotson had nothing but praise for the seven finalist of the Coshocton Idol contest.
“There is an unbelievable amount of talent here (in Coshocton) and surrounding communities,” said Fuller. “This contest was so, so incredibly tight.”
Fuller and Dotson had the job of judging the finals of the contest, which was held Sept. 9, at the Warehouse Steak ‘n Stein in Roscoe Village.
“Thank you,” Dotson said. “You all did an awesome job.”
The judges listened to each contestant sing two songs and then calculator their scores on appearance, stage presence, vocal ability and quality, knowledge of their song and overall judge’s impression. After deliberating, the judges chose Homer Maple as the winner and Dylan Daniels as the runner up. Both men are from Zanesville and Maple went home with a $750 prize and Daniels took home $250.
Maple was shocked to be named the winner.
“They were all great,” he said. “I loved everybody. I’m really surprised I beat this guy (Daniels). We are buddies and sing with each other all the time.”
Daniels also enjoyed sharing the stage with Maple and the other contestants.
“It was a great privilege to share the stage with the other six,” Daniels said.
He also enjoyed participating in the contest because it was keeping arts alive in the community. Daniels and Maple also noticed that the crowd really seemed to like what they were watching.
“I love singing when people really seem to enjoy it,” Maple said.
Daniels agreed.
“I love to perform and the vibe you get from the audience,” he said.
Also competing in the contest was: Justin Giesey, Kearstin Clark, Stefanie Neff, Chad Thornsley and Jessica Shepherd.
The Coshocton Idol contest is in its third year and John Larson from the Warehouse Steak ‘n Stein is open for suggestions to help it continue to grow.
