Vendor Updates:

Blossom Acres CSA

This week we’re welcoming a new produce vendor, Blossom Acres CSA. This is a farm that operates a CSA (community supported agriculture) that feeds many families in the Columbus (North Market) and capital city suburb areas (including Powell and Westerville). We are so excited for them to be able to market their produce a little closer to home. This week they will have fresh asparagus on Thursday. And, in the weeks to come…spinach, salad greens, green onions, green garlic (YUM), and strawberries. Everything they produce is chemical free.

Flying Pig Farm

This week we have sprouts galore! They seemed to shoot out of the ends of the jars. Now is the time to try a couple different varities! We also have a few bags of mustard greens in the cooler. Wilted with onion and garlic, mustard greens have a pleasant mild peppery taste. We’ve also baked a fresh batch of granola so stock up on picnic snacks!

Hillbippie

Our goats and hen finally moved into their new barn this past weekend, they aren’t sure if they like it yet.  Transition was good except for one ornery goat who got loose and hung out on our porch with the dogs for about an hour.  My husband finally had to tackle her to get her back into the pen.  Never a dull moment on this hill!  This week I have Focaccia, French Boule, Rustic Baguettes and Full Wheat Bread on Friday.  My Full Wheat Bread is my new favorite, it has a lovely crumb texture and is amazing for sandwiches/toast.  It is also made with Dick Mullet’s honey, so it is locally sweet 🙂  I also have my new Spring Tonic tea available, as well as your favorites, Reset Button and Mint Condition.  These are great iced as well as hot!

Keene Creek Farm

Our spinach is starting to wind down, but we will have a few bags yet this week. Since this batch was in the hoop house, the super hot days are causing it to bolt. Salad greens are growing like mad in the hoop house though, so we will have them for you this week too. Dill will also be in the cooler – straight out of the hoop house. It is screaming for you to toss it into a potato salad. Yum. (Please note: all of our good will be at Local Bounty around 11 tomorrow – won’t make it for opening). The pigs we have on pasture are really starting to pack on the pounds now. They grew horribly slow this winter – I think every ounce of energy went to staying warm and healthy as opposed to filling out the hams. Here’s to hoping they finish out before we run out of pork because we know you’re already missing our ham loaf, chops and bacon. So are we. We always appreciate your support and look forward to helping feed your family in the weeks to come.

Thousand Hill Acres LLC

After a busy sales week last week, our freezer has been restocked and ready for another busy week to come! Available is our 100 percent pastured Red Wattle Bacon, Italian Sausage Links, Breakfast Sausage Links (little pigs), bone-in and boneless pork chops, steaks, roasts, and salt pepper sage sausage. Happenings around the farm:We recently purchased 2 more bred Red Wattle sows and a boar! This will further enable us to sustainably meet our current and fast growing interest in our top quality pastured pork.

Our 100 percent grass-fed cattle are growing well. We project to have cuts in our freezer by late fall!  Our spring calving is well underway with only 1 heifer (girl) calf having been born to date. That means we will have more steers for butcher at about 18-20 months of age!  We have signed up for a permaculture design coarse to hopefully help us better understand ways by which we can utilize every square foot of our farm to it’s full sustainable potential.  On the same subject, we are working with a company to install a solar powered water pump at our spring to better utilize those natural resources!
