Ridgewood tops Hiland
WEST LAFAYETTE – In girls soccer, Ridgewood scored two goals in the first four minutes and held on for a 2-1 victory over Hiland. It was the Lady Generals first victory over Hiland in nine meetings between the two IVC schools.
Kalynn Bluck put Ridgwood on the board just 1:24 into the match when she took a Mackenzie Bates pass and riffled it past Hiland goalkeeper, Mackenzie Miller.
The Lady Generals struck again with 36:11 before halftime when Taylor Zinkon poked in a loose ball off an Anna Powell direct kick that was bouncing around in the box.
“Our intensity in the beginning of the match was the difference,” said coach Casey Claxon. “Then our defense took over and held them off down the stretch.”
Sam Moore was superb in goal saving 10 of Hiland’s 12 shots on goal. Ridgewood held a 16 to 12 advantage in shots.
Ridgewood improved to 5-1-1, and Hiland fell to 2-6.
Hiland won the junior varsity game 4-0.
Ridgewood travels to Dover for a varsity and junior varsity match at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13.
