Flu season is here and now is a great time to protect yourself against the virus with an annual flu shot, which is being provided at the Coshocton City Health Department, located at 400 Browns Lane in Coshocton.

“It’s important for people to get flu shots each year to not only protect themselves, but to protect others from getting it,” said Vickie Davis, Director of Nursing at the Coshocton City Health Department.

The Coshocton City Health Department will be providing flu shots Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 1 – 3 p.m. until Oct. 24 with no appointment necessary. After that date, people will need to contact the health department to make an appointment for their flu shot by calling 622-1736. The cost is $20. The cost of the vaccine is covered for those with traditional Medicare and Medicaid.

“It’s important (to receive the flu vaccine) because the flu shot protects against three strains of the flu,” said Katherine Clark, Public Health Nurse at the Coshocton City Health Department. “It’s really important for children and older adults and people with chronic diseases because they are more susceptible, and just other people so they won’t miss work or school.”

Those who should not receive the vaccine are people who have egg allergies, those who have had a bad reaction to the vaccine in the past, and those with Guillan-Barre Syndrome.
