Michael L. ‘Mike’ Wood
A dedicated public servant and former Coshocton resident Michael L. “Mike” Wood, 63, of Abingdon, Va., passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN.
Born November 27, 1950 in Coshocton, he was the son of the late Lewis Garold and Marjorie Elizabeth (Wells) Wood.
A 1968 graduate of Riverview High School, Mike served in the U. S. Navy as an ordnance mechanic from April 1, 1969 to March 2, 1973 with overseas duty in Viet Nam.
Mike served the community as a Deputy Sheriff from 1973 until 1980. Mike left the Sherriff’s office as a Patrol Sergeant. Mike then served for 22 years as fire fighter for the Coshocton City Fire Department having achieved the rank of Captain several years before his retirement in 2002.
On March 23, 1973 Mike married Marsha Pack who survives along with a son Chris (Carrie) Wood and granddaughter Alexis Wood of Indianapolis, IN; brother Dennis (Sis) Wood; four sisters Melody (Tom) Walters, Linda (Dave) Wright, Dorothy (Pat) Dorsey, Darlene (Tim) Riggle all of Coshocton and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a brother James Wood.
Services will be held at 11:00 Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at the Free Funeral Home, Coshocton with Pastor Starkey Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at Coshocton County Memory Gardens. Military Honors will be conducted by the Coshocton County Veterans Council.
Calling hours will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 10, 2014 and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
