Lincoln Elementary School is coming down. Let’s remember this – it’s kind of like that old saying – “you can take the boy off the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the boy”. Or something like that. Same thing goes for Lincoln Elementary School. You can remove the school and the bricks and plaster but you can’t take away the memories. And for all those that went to Lincoln School, we encourage you to write down some memories to share with your family and future generations.

Okay, so I was wrong on the US soccer team beating Belgium. BUT – our goalie did set a World Cup record in the process so that has to count for something? My pick is Brazil or maybe Argentina as the overall winner. And since I have now lost interest both of those may be out already.

The Tribe needs to sweep the Yankees (in town starting Monday night, July 7) and then roll into the next series before the All Star Break. Remember last year is when Cleveland went on a tear down the stretch but ran out of steam in the playoffs. If Masterson can get going again that will help.

The Reds and Cleveland are both six games out of first in their respective divisions as of July 7.

Locally, there’s a lot of positive activity. Comments from the annual fireworks sponsored by the Coshocton Towne Center Association ranged from “Awesome” to “Fantastic” to “It was great” and more. Thanks to the reorganized Towne Center Association for a job well done –and at the same time – a big thank you to the folks that worked many tireless and often thankless hours ensuring that our community had a nice fireworks display during many years when some surrounding communities cancelled due to a lack of funding. This continuation of an annual event means much to our community and especially to the kids that have the opportunity to see their first blast of fireworks.

The community band performances are another wonderful opportunity to come to the court square lawn on a Friday evening and enjoy some good music. These volunteers deserve our thanks.

Volunteers have worked many long hours the past few weeks to ensure that our community looks like a winner for the America in Bloom judges – who are visiting Coshocton on July 7 and 8. Their report and feedback to the community is valuable indeed. The flower pots that decorate Main Street look great as do the hanging baskets on the corners. Roscoe Village is looking prim and proper and Mrs. Montgomery would be proud of the effort put forth for America in Bloom. It only takes a bit of effort from many to ensure that Coshocton County is a great place to live, work and play.

Be sure to make a visit to the fairgrounds this weekend to see the annual Antique Power Association Tractor Show. A great group of folks put a lot of effort in to ensure that our young people have a chance to see what tractors and farm equipment was like “back in the day”. Usually there’s homemade ice cream for sale too.

Our community is blessed to have many volunteers that make good things happen. Thanks.
