Allen D. Shaffer

Allen D. Shaffer “Corky”, 85, born December 9, 1928 passed away July 16, 2014 after a short illness. He was surrounded in love by his daughters Jill (Joseph Zarr) and Jan (Robert Wilhoite). He was preceded in death by wife Martha (McGrevey), parents Lester Earl and Bonnie (Emler), grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his two daughters, three grandchildren, four great-grand-children and many nieces and nephews.

Corky enjoyed a life with a pastime of horses, boating, Corvair restoration and wood carving. In his 20’s he had obtained his airplane mechanic degree. He later married his high school sweetheart Martha and they started Corky’s Truck Stop. While working 24/7 at the Truck Stop as owner, manager, waiter and cook, they had their first child and built their first home. Soon after having their second child, they designed, build and managed the Sleepy Lane Motel. After selling Sleepy Lane, he became employed at Stone Container (RockTenn) and worked his way up from maintenance to head of Purchasing until he retired at age 62.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, July 19th from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main Street, Coshocton with a memorial service to begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor Irwin Jennings officiating. A luncheon in his honor will be held immediately following at Park United Methodist Church, 122 Park Ave.

In lieu of flowers; he desired that memorial contributions may be directed to Health Services of Coshocton County “Hospice”, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. An online memorial is located at www.themillerfuneralhome.com .
