Jeffrey A. Skelley
NEW PHILADELPHIA – Jeffrey “Jeff” Andrew Skelley, 54, passed away Tuesday, July 29, at 12:50 a.m. at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia. Jeff was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma in May 2011. He received a bone marrow transplant on Aug. 21, 2012. Jeff was doing very well until January 2014 when he was diagnosed with a rare virus called PML. The PML virus is a very rare complication that can develop after the immune system has been compromised.
Jeff was born Sept. 8, 1959 in Connellsville, Pa. and was the son of Hilde Skelley of Coshocton and the late Wendell Skelley. He was a graduate of Coshocton High School, had worked at Coshocton Industries and retired from AK Steel. He married his wife, Lynn (Scott) on Oct. 21, 1989 and they resided in Tuscarawas. In 2003, they purchased and operated Skelley’s Pub until the fall of 2013.
Along with his wife and mother, Jeff is survived by his children, Dusty (Jeremy) Jenkins of Charleston, SC and Beau (Kellie) Bates of Ladson, SC and two grandsons, Jaxon and Mason Bates. Jeff was the sixth of 10 children. Four brothers, Wendell (Laurie) of Canton, Erich (Rachel) of Coshocton, Matthew (Beth) of Chapin, SC, and Pat (Leslie) of Cambridge, five sisters, Monica (Greg) Moore of Pensacola, Fla, Julie (Bill) Dabbelt of Columbus, Rene Adams of Coshocton, Andrea (Curt) Clark of Chapin, SC, and Stephanie (Larry) Lepard of Grove City also survive along with many nieces and nephews.
Per Jeff’s wishes, there were no services. The Geib’s Funeral Home in Dover assisted the family.
