Local Bounty Update
Good Morning All,
There is definitely a chill in the air! It is time to get out your warm sweaters and long johns and prepare to hunker down for the cold weather ahead. It is also the time of year for comfort food. It gives us great comfort knowing where our food comes from, local farmers, bakers and growers! Stop in and see us today and tomorrow 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
An Announcement – For all you veterans out there that have obtained an ID card from the Coshocton County Veterans Service Commission, we are offering a 2% discount if you show your card at the register. We thank you for your service and are glad to be able to offer this small but heartfelt appreciation.
Upcoming Class: Hosting for the Holidays
Want to learn how to effectively and efficiently meal plan for the holidays? Or, how to create a tablescape that will astound your guests? If so, you won’t want to miss out on our Hosting for the Holidays class with Rashelle Gillett and Theresa Scheetz (what great gals!). Join them on Thursday, November 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Local Bounty for an informal talk about how to plan for the upcoming holiday season. Rashelle will talk about how much of various foods to prepare for different size crowds and how to integrate some local ingredients into your feasts (no matter how big or small). Theresa will share ideas on how to set your dinner table – for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. A guaranteed great time. Reservations are $10 and space is limited. To reserve your seat, e-mail localbountycoshocton@gmail.com or call 622-1400. Light refreshments will be served.
Did you know?
Check your onions, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac lore, thin skins mean a mild winter: Onion skins very thin, mild winter coming in.
Vendor Updates
Flying Pig Farm
Wow we were busy with the Applebutter Festival last weekend! If you didn’t get any Pumpkin Butter, I’m bringing in a couple more jars today. It’s really yummy! I’ve made a fresh batch of Red Raspberry and Blueberry Jam as well. Get them while they last.
Hillbippie
We have a heavy heart on the hill today as we lost a young friend this past week. Please keep his mother and family in your thoughts. I will not have bread in today but will be back up and at it for tomorrow morning. Focaccia as usual and Rustic French Baguettes and Bippie Buns. If you would like to get your custom call ahead bread, send me an email hillbippiehall@gmail.com, I would be happy to bake a specific bread just for you!
Keene Creek Farm
Roasts, Canadian bacon, marinated loin chops – all three were stocked this week at Local Bounty. We also have a few ham hocks for those of you who have been asking for them. I’m guessing some of you are getting the itch for some bean soup? 🙂 Our supply of mild Italian brats is really getting low, and we will have more for you early November. Did you try our Bar Stool Pretzels? They’re the newest item on our market shelf space and there are samples of it, along with some Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Fudge, on the sample table at LB. The fudge will be in the cooler. Go ahead, indulge.
Millcreek Homestead
We have a new product to tell you about! Soy candles! The wax is made in the USA and is a nice, clean burning product. Right now, they are available in great fall scents: Farm House Cider and Pumpkin Pie. They’ll make your house smell great when you don’t have time to bake. Speaking of baking…my granola will be fresh and on the shelves Friday morning.
Mullet Apiaries
We have wrapped up another outdoor farmers market season and the only place you can now buy our delicious honey is right here at the Local Bounty Coshocton! Here’s a suggestion – make one of Flying Pig’s soup mixes, combine it with Hillbippie’s boule or Rosemary’s oatmeal bread spread with some of our creamed honey. Mmmm…Did you know bees use the sun as a compass? But when it’s cloudy, there’s a backup—they navigate by polarized light using special photoreceptors to find the sun’s place in the sky. And here’s a kicker – the Vikings may have discovered something similar – on sunny days, they navigated with sundials, but on cloudy days, sunstones—chunks of calcite that act like a Polaroid filter—helped them stay on course.
Strawberry Hill Farm
Brrr, it’s getting chilly! Time for comfort foods like potato kale soup. We’re bringing plenty of kale to the store this morning, plus carrots, romaine lettuce, summer squash and zucchini, and lots of pastured brown eggs
