Season opens with Tennessee Williams’ masterpiece at Ohio State Newark
NEWARK – The Theatre Department of The Ohio State University at Newark is proud to present Tennessee Williams’ masterpiece, “The Glass Menagerie” at 8 p.m. with performances Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 20-22. There will be a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23. Performances will be in the Black Box Theater in LeFevre Hall. General admission is $10, student tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door.
“The Glass Menagerie” is a memory play based loosely on Williams’ own family. Set in 1930s St. Louis, it’s the story of a family burdened by an idealized and romanticized past that lacks a realistic compass for living in the present world. The mother, Amanda, played by Ellie Unger; the daughter, Laura, played by Andrea M. Murch; and the narrator’s son, Tom, played by Mitchell Baughman, are all waiting for the “long-delayed but always expected something that all people live for but few obtain.” Additional cast member, Brian Banks, plays Jim.
Special events accompanying the production include:
– A pre-show lecture: “Playing for Memory” with Virginia Cope, Ph.D., Associate Professor of English at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21.
– A post-show event: “Q&A with performers” will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22.
