Lantern painting for the Chinese New Year
COSHOCTON – Get ready to celebrate the Chinese New Year with a lantern painting party on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum. The Year of the Sheep begins on Feb. 18 and a lantern festival is always part of this week-long celebration. Party-goers will participate in a few of the customs, including some of the foods, and then decorate their lanterns in preparation for the February event. This activity is geared towards elementary school-aged children. Younger children will need an adult to assist them.
The lanterns will be hung in the special exhibit gallery until Feb. 15 when children may pick them up for their own celebration. The museum’s annual elementary art exhibit will be on display at that time so that visitors may see the lanterns when they attend the opening exhibit
Program cost is $3 (accompanying adults, free) and free for those with Friends of the Museum Family Memberships.
