GAPs Training offered in Muskingum County
ZANESVILLE – OSU Extension will be hosting two opportunities to participate in a Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) Training class for fruit and vegetable producers on Tuesday, March 17. The first session will be from 1 – 4 p.m. and an additional session will be conducted from 6 – 9 p.m. Each session will be held at the Muskingum County Business Incubator, 2725 Pinkerton Road in South Zanesville.
Emily Adams, Extension Educator, Coshocton County and Levi Morrow, Extension Educator, Washington County will be conducting the GAPs trainings. Both are members of the OSU Produce Safety Team. New this year for the GAP training will be information on the Proposed Supplemental Rule in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, which is scheduled to be published in the Federal Register this fall. The proposal includes revisions in what will be required for water quality and testing, manure and compost application and wildlife intrusion.
Participants will receive a three-ring binder with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) templates and record-keeping templates, presentation handouts and a certificate of participation.
Pre-registration is needed to the OSU Extension Muskingum County office by March 10. Sessions are $20 per person, a discounted fee made possible through a grant from the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
