DSC_0039WEST LAFAYETTE – Pat Lewis, left watches as her three-year-old great-granddaughter Nevaeh Salters tests her car on the track at the Awana Grand Prix. She also had two other great-grandchildren competing in the event, which was held Saturday, March 14, at the West Lafayette First Baptist Church. Ninety to 100 area youth participated in the event. “We did this last year ourselves, but wanted to open it up to other young people this year,” said Mary Mansfield. Awana groups from Calvary Baptist Church and Chili Crossroads Church also were invited to test their cars on the electronic track supplied by Awana Missionary Jeff Ruff. Trophies were awarded for the best design and fastest car. “Some of these cars are really fast,” said Richard Holbert, who was helping at the starting line. “They’ve come a long way since I was a kid.”

About the Author ()

I started my journalism career in 2002 with a daily newspaper chain. After various stops with them, I am happy to be back home! I graduated from Coshocton High School in 1998 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in 2002 from Walsh University. I also earned several awards while working for daily papers, including being honored by Coshocton County’s veterans for the stories I wrote about them. I am honored and ready to once again shine a positive light on Coshocton County. I also am the proud mother of a little girl named Sophia!
