Oden A. Murray
COSHOCTON – Oden Alvorise Murray, 91, of Coshocton, died Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.
He was born January 15, 1924 in Coshocton to the late Harvey D. and Cleo (Cullison) Murray.
He retired in 1987 from the Buckeye Fabric Finishing Co. in Coshocton. He was a 1942 graduate of Coshocton High School and a World War II U.S. Army veteran, receiving a purple heart, World War II Victory Medal, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign & European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medals and 5 Bronze Service Stars. His parents had 7 sons in four different branches of the military, all at the same time. He was a big supporter of Bowl for Kids Sake, Big Brother-Big Sisters, River View athletics, especially the “Lady Bears”, the Coshocton County Animal Shelter, veterans activities, and he was an avid roller skater. Everyone knew him for his award winning homemade buckeyes. He would donate them for fund raising for the Warsaw Lions Club Minstrel Show, the Chocolate Extravaganza, and Higher Hopes Auction. He loved to socialize and everyone who knew Oden, knew Oden.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Marty.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Marie (Rine) Murray, whom he married Oct. 21, 1961; she died Feb. 18, 2009. He was also preceded in death by 7 brothers, Ellis, Russell, Ward, Fay, Fred, Donis, & Encil Murray and three sisters, Edith Hook, Maxine Parks, and Wanda Carter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Rev. Dail Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in Darling Run Cemetery, with graveside military services conducted by the Coshocton County Joint Veterans Council. Visitation is Tuesday, March 24th from 5-7 p.m., and until service time on Wednesday. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
