COSHOCTON – Julie Ames couldn’t wait to have Hannah Ianniello make a graduation cake for her daughter and she’s just one of the many excited customers who walked through the door in the first few days of Ianniello opening her specialty bakery and coffee shop.

“I’m baking cupcakes and they are going right out of the oven and flying off the shelves,” Ianniello said.

Hannah Marie’s is located at 139 S. Third St. and offers pastries, cupcakes, coffee and specially designed cakes, which are Ianniello’s favorite part of the business.

“To me a cake is a canvas,” she said.

Ianniello, a 2008 graduate of River View High School, always loved art and thought she would go into animation until her senior year.

“That’s when I decided to go into culinary arts and do something with the pastry side of the business,” she said.

Ianniello studied at Zane State and then moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where she started getting hands-on experience from some of the best including Coccadotts.

“They are based out of New York and the owner was on Cupcake Wars,” she said. “It was the hot spot because people knew it from being on the Food Network show. I was pushing 70 to 90 hours a week. There were times I was there to see the same people clock out and then back in.”

Ianniello believes working at Coccadotts made her who she is today.

“I had the talent, but I learned to be faster there,” she said. “You had to have quality and quantity and I wanted the cakes to be unique and have their own twist so they were outstanding.”

Ianniello enjoyed her work, but missed her family.

“My sister had a baby and I wanted to be able to spend time with my nephew and watch him grow up,” she said. “It was always in the plans to do something like this, it was just a question of where.”

With the help of her family and boyfriend she’s been able to turn her dream into a reality and offer Coshocton residents a unique experience.

The coffee you get at Hannah Marie’s is as unique as the cakes Ianniello designs. Her family flew someone in from the American Barista & Coffee School in Portland, Oregon to teach them how to make the perfect cup of joe and they have Caravan Coffee shipped to them from Oregon.

Best of all, there is plenty of room at the shop to sit back and enjoy your coffee and dessert.

“I think people are excited to have somewhere to come,” Ianniello said. “I grew up watching ‘Friends’ with my family and we always wanted to have a place like their Central Perk for people to come to. I couldn’t have made this all happen without the support of my family. They’ve been a big support. I can’t explain how truly blessed I am.”

Hannah Marie’s is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For information, call 740-575-4689 or check out Hannah Marie’s on Facebook.
