New pet grooming business opens
WARSAW – Chelsie Helms has always loved animals.
“She’s been wonderful with them since she was born,” said Sharon Kaufman, Helms’ mother. “She could go up to any animal and it loved her. We always thought she would do something with them, we just didn’t know what.”
Helms first thought she would be a veterinarian, but soon found that her passion was with being a pet groomer. She’s been in the business for three years now and officially opened her own shop, Chelsie’s Pet Grooming, on May 4. A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new business at 130 Main St. in Warsaw was held May 5.
“I’d been doing this with my mother-in-law, but she is moving and I didn’t want to stop,” Helms said. “My puppies are my kids and I love them all. All dogs have their own personality.”
The shop is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and Helms offers a grooming package, will do just nails and can even paint your dogs’ nails if you desire. Customers also might be greeted by the shop’s mascot, Sophia, Helms’ chocolate toy poodle who showed off her pink nails at the ribbon cutting.
“I’m looking forward to one on one time with the dogs and just spending time with animals,” Helms said.
She is a 2012 graduate of River View High School and learned her dog grooming skills through an apprenticeship program.
“This shop is a perfect fit for her,” Kaufman said. “Her Dad (Ron) and I are very proud to see her own her own business.”
