Local Bounty Update

| May 28, 2015

Good Morning,

It’s that time of year for planting and growing, see what we have in store for you today and tomorrow 10-6, Sat. 9-1.

Vendor Updates:

Hillbippie

Our garden is prepped and ready for planting, it is an exciting time of year for us!  I can’t wait to taste a homegrown tomato, there is nothing like it.  While you’re out there in the garden bring a glass of my iced Mint Condition, it sure is refreshing!  Prepare your tea as usual but add ice to your glass and enjoy, you can do this with any of my teas.  Or you can add them to your regular iced tea!

Keene Creek Farm

My little grocery-getter Honda was loaded down when we delivered goods to Local Bounty for this market week. We dropped off salad greens (please wash them at home though – they don’t wash and then store well – so wash right before eating) and little bit of kale. Our pork supply is holding steady, but we are about to have a bacon shortage on our hands. We apologize in advance – we have tried really hard to keep it in stock. But, this time it is just going, going…almost gone. We have lots of brat options for the grilling season. We originally thought ham loaf would be a seasonal item, but have found you all love it year round. So, we have more of that in stock now. Our market stalls are stocked with pizza dough mixes, Aunt M’s Monster Mix and Bar Stool Pretzels. This week we’ve been trying to make a deal to purchase two more Texas Longhorn bred heifers. As soon as they’re proven to be pregnant, we will seal the deal. Since our pasture is so small (2 acres isn’t enough room for hogs and cows), we have secured a pasture to use just up the road from us. Many thanks to Drs. Dave and Brenda Lozowski for having a passion for local food and for allowing us to use some of their beautiful farm space. We greatly appreciate it.

Mullet Apiaries
Swarm season has kept us hopping and hive dynamics are changing on a daily basis. It’s a crazy bee year! But we still have plenty of golden honey to put in your iced tea made with Hillbippie teas, or on toast made from Rosemary’s or Flying Pig’s bread. How about an iced coffee made with Pink Elephant coffee, our honey and Wholesome Valley’s cream?  Honey is known to have antibacterial properties, so for those little summer cuts and scrapes, try applying a dot of honey before you bandage it. As always, thanks for your support.

Strawberry Hill Farm

If you haven’t planted your tomatoes and peppers yet, or if your plants got nipped by frost last week, never fear. We’re bringing more of our certified organic plants to Local Bounty this week. We have regular, paste, and cherry tomatoes, including many heirloom varieties. We also have pepper and basil plants. They come in biodegradable pots (plant the pot too) and sell for $2.50 each. Happy planting!

Thanks!
