Display case to be purchased for court house if grant application accepted
These are the windows that will be auctioned off during the Court House Open House on Saturday, Aug. 1. The windows were found during the court house renovations in much need of repair. They have been refurbished and will feature a scene of the Coshocton County Court House painted by eight local artists.
COSHOCTON – The Coshocton County Commissioners met with Irene Miller to discuss application for the Gannett “Make a Difference Day” Grant. In the past, Gannett awarded $5,000 grants to three Coshocton entities including Friends of the Park, Coshocton County Head Start, and Coshocton County Job and Family Services. The criteria for applying for the grant requires a 25-word essay and an explanation of what the money is going toward and how many citizens will it impact.
Miller is hoping to use the grant money, if the application is accepted, to purchase a display case for the Jury Assembly Room to display some of the antique artifacts she has collected over the years from Coshocton County.
“Those things need to be preserved because you never know where they’re going to end up in the days to come,” said Miller.
She also encouraged people to donate to the display case if they have anything from Coshocton County’s bygone days that they would like to preserve for generations to come.
During the renovation, eight windows were found in the courthouse and they have been refurbished. The windows will feature a painting from eight local artists who recently toured the court house and took photos for inspiration. These windows will be on display at the Court House Open House on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 4 – 7 p.m. The public is invited to tour the court house and to bid on the eight refurbished windows.
