COTC to offer culinary workshops for the community
NEWARK – Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is pleased to invite culinary enthusiasts, home-cooks and entry-level food service professionals to participate in two four-day culinary workshops at the college. The sessions will be from 5 – 9 p.m. at the John Gilbert Reese Center on the shared campus of COTC and The Ohio State University at Newark.
The series of workshops, called Community Culinary Creations, offers the community the opportunity to learn from the college’s Chef Matt Russo and Chef Angela Dawn Merriman. The first 15 participants to register will be accepted into the workshops, and they must be over the age of 18.
The first four-day workshop is “Eat Dessert First,” and in this baking, pastry and desserts workshop, participants will learn the principles of baking and making tasty syrups, creams, icings and sauces. Cost for the workshop is $288 and includes all supplies, learning materials and “take what you make” food. The workshop dates are July 7, 9, 14 and 16.
The second four-day workshop is the “Basics of Cooking BootCamp,” which will include hands-on learning of culinary skills and fundamentals including: knife skills, presenting, garnishing; and preparing stocks, sauces, soups and eggs. Cost for the workshop is $348 per person and includes a knife set, supplies, learning materials and “take what you make” food. The workshop dates are July 21, 23, 28 and 30.
“Experience the workshops with friends or consider making it a date night for couples,” said Chef Matt Russo. “We have many folks who look forward to impressing their friends and family at dinner parties after taking the workshops and learning new recipes and presentation styles.”
