Lillibridge crowned West Lafayette Homecoming Festival Queen
WEST LAFAYETTE – The West Lafayette Homecoming Festival’s Queen Contest ended with Josey Lillibridge being crowned the 2015-2016 West Lafayette Homecoming Festival Queen and Taylor Brady being named First Attendant.
“I am very happy that I got it,” said Lillibridge. “I’m so happy that I get to be the hometown girl and be queen.”
Throughout the evening, R&D Promotions provided music with Rick Williamson and Jessica Shepherd as soloists. One contestant in each category went home with an Amici’s gift certificate and various raffles were drawn throughout the evening.
Each of the contestants’ crowns was sponsored by Statements by Shannon. The flowers were sponsored by Linnett’s Flowers on the Square. The charm bracelets were provided by Dean’s Jewelry. Each contestant received a gift bag sponsored by the queens’ alumni, and the sash was made and sponsored by 2008 homecoming queen, Shelby Matchett.
The Little Miss contest was held and two contestants, Kailey Angle and Vayda Dickerson vied for the title. The winning contestant was chosen previously by a local photographer. The 2015-2016 Little Miss is Vayda Dickerson. She also won the Amici’s Pizza raffle as well.
There were seven girls vying for Mini Queen at the festival. Each girl answered a few questions and then chose a flower from a vase on the stage. The color of the flower was hidden under wrapping paper. There were two yellow flowers and one red flower, representing the attendants and the Mini Queen winner respectively. After a tense few moments of the girls unwrapping their flowers, Sydney Wood was crowed Mini Queen and Alaena Huff and Alayah Reynolds were crowned attendants.
The other contestants were Kyndal Craigo, Madeleine Larrison, who was the winner of the Amici’s Pizza raffle, Karie Sells, and Brooke Tubbs.
The Senior Queen is bestowed upon a lady who has contributed in multiple ways to her community. This year’s senior queen was a 1951 graduate of West Lafayette High School and has been married to her high school sweetheart for 64 years. They have four children and she was also a Girl Scout leader for many years. The 2015-2016 Senior Queen is Helen Eileen Green Overholt.
Four young girls were up for the title of Junior Queen. The winner was chosen by selling raffle tickets, attending the queen’s tea, interviews onstage and off-stage, attendance to queen meetings, and an essay on why they would be a good Junior Queen. The contestants were Laney Hostetler, Kaelynn Robinson, Alyna Weaver, and Kyra Weaver.
This year’s third attendant is Kyra Weaver; second attendant is Alyna Weaver; first attendant is Laney Hostetler, who also won the Amici’s Pizza raffle, and the Junior Queen is Kaelynn Robinson.
“It means so much to me,” said Robinson. “I’m so proud of what I said on stage and at the tea. I’m happy that all the contestants got a crown. They can always compete again next year.”
The queen contest is judged by selling raffle tickets, attending the queen’s tea, interviews onstage and off-stage, attendance to queen meetings, community projects, and an essay on why they would be a good queen. The judges for the contest were Lacey Bright, Cindy Hanel, and Emily Lyons-Wolf.
The events during the queen contest were sponsored by the West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and the West Lafayette Queen Alumni.
