Coshocton City to pave Main Street next month
COSHOCTON – Coshocton City roads are getting a little smoother every day. Thanks to the City of Coshocton and various grants, crews are outside each day hard at work paving the city roads.
The main project this year is repaving State Route 541 from the Roscoe Village Corporation to the south corporation sign on Cambridge Road, which is 4.9 miles. This job has been completed; however, cementing man holes, edge lines, and striping still need to be done. Although the slip area had to be bypassed in the original work, that should be finished up by the end of the week.
The total cost of the State Route 541 project was $2.1 million and was funded in part by a federal grant for $1,436,000. The city contributed $600,000 to that project which also included adding handicapped sidewalks.
The Ohio Public Works Commission also helped to fund the paving with a $325,000 loan. Other funding included an MLV fund and the 7.5 percent state tax fund helped to fund the State Route 541 project.
The next round of repaving will be done on Main Street from Water Street to Seventh Street. This will begin sometime in September. Repair work has also been scheduled on Clow Lane and Morgan Run Road sometime in late August or early September.
Repairs have been completed this year on Otsego Avenue, but Otsego is scheduled to be completely repaved next year. The funding for this has been secured through an Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) grant in the amount of $299,992. The work on Otsego Avenue will begin next spring.
Due to a $25,000 CDBG grant, the city was able to repair sidewalks, berming, and guard rails at the intersection of Seventh Street and Otsego Avenue and the intersection of Denman Avenue and Otsego Avenue.
Next year, the city hopes to pave many side streets.
