Local Bounty Update

| August 27, 2015

Good morning,

It is a bit chilly today, but the sun is out! Come see what we have in store, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Flying Pig Farm

Chilly weather is here (at least this week)! Warm up with some soup and toasted bread. We made some Cinnamon Raisin Bread as well as our Cinnamon Raisin Sweet Rolls. It’s great for a grilled cheese made with Hot Pepper Jelly. We probably won’t bake as much next week. Please put in your orders at the store, by emailing harmstrong333@gmail.com or message us at www.Facebook.com/OhioFlyingPigFarm.

Mullet Apiaries

The small amount of rain we received this past week gave some relief to our bees who, despite all the fall flowers out there, were not bringing in any nectar due to the dry conditions.  Keeping our fingers crossed that the fall flow will pick up so they can store enough to eat over the winter.  What we DO have for you is sweet honey on the shelf at Local Bounty! We also have bulk wax for those of you who crafty with candles.  Just a reminder:  this time of year we get a lot of calls on supposed swarms of honey bees that are really an infestation of yellow jackets.  Yellow jackets are yellow and black, hairless, and have a paper nest in the eaves, in the ground or under a step, etc. Honey bees seldom swarm in the fall, are hairy, usually a gold and brown, and have a waxy comb house.  Unless a beekeeper also has an exterminator license, he or she cannot help you with your yellow jacket problem.  Contact the OSU Extension for more info on how to handle them. As always, we appreciate your business.

Windy Hill Farm

Fresh batch of Apple Butter just made using local Ohio apples. Get it now because we’ll be moving a few miles away next month so don’t know if we’ll have a chance to make any more this fall. Also got some some rhubarb and blackberries picked for you nice folks. The blackberries are huge! Thanks for your continued support of locally grown foods and quality, handmade products.

Thank you,

— Local Bounty Vendors
