Ridgewood holds wall of fame induction ceremony
WEST LAFAYETTE – Several more Generals were recently added to the Ridgewood Distinguished Wall of Fame.
Jarrett Art, Billy Bailey, Zach Donley, Michael Kelley and the late Raymond Border became members of the wall of fame after a special ceremony held before the start of the Aug. 29 varsity football game against Bellaire High School.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to be a part of this,” said Irene Miller, who is on the wall of fame selection committee. “There are so many deserving people.”
Art, Bailey, Donley, and Kelley were on the 2015 4×100 relay team Coached by John Slusser that was the first in school history to win a state title. Art and Donley are 2015 Ridgewood High School graduates, Bailey is a senior and Kelley is a junior at RHS.
Border was a 1999 graduate of Ridgewood High School and played football, wrestled and ran track for the Generals. He was killed in October 2011 while serving with the U.S. Navy in Afghanistan.
Individuals are nominated for the wall of fame in one of five categories: Community, athletics, music, education or military. A selection committee, including various people from the West Lafayette community, review the nominations and decided who to induct. Those who are chosen are then honored in displays at the high school.
Nomination forms can be found at http://www.ridgewood.k12.oh.us/WallofFame.aspx and the selection committee currently includes Karen Brown, Don Lusk, Norma Ruble, Irene Miller, Jamie McCrea, Susan Gordon, Helen Leindecker, and Todd Stoffer.
“This is a small way for us to show our appreciation to those who have gone above and beyond,” said Brown who is president of the committee.
