If you don’t like the weather, wait a week and it’ll change! Isn’t it interesting to live in Ohio? We’ve been busy canning and freezing fruit to use all year in our small batch jams and jellies. It’s nice to have quality, chemical free produce available to make fresh products “on demand”. I stopped by the orchard where we purchase apples and soon we’ll be slow cooking a big batch of apple butter! Our recipe calls for specific varieties that allow just the right amount of spice and sweetness without alot of sugar. The apples are ripening beautifully! We’ll have a few greens in the cooler this week. Thanks to the those who are ordering our non-GMO and gluten-free baked goods!
Hillbippie
I have new jewel bowls in the works!! Stay tuned ✌️Happy Labor Day folks!
Mullet Apiaries
Did you know that the flavor of honey is influenced by the type of flower the bees are visiting and gathering nectar from? Locust honey is very light-almost clear-and very mild. The beekeeper has his/her hives near a stand of locust and will pull the honey off immediately after the locust has bloomed in order to have “locust honey”. Buckwheat honey can be dark and strong. In Florida, they have orange blossom honey from bees in the orange groves. Our honey is “wildflower honey” because we cannot control where our bees go from day to day as they forage, and we have many different kinds of plants and flowers in our area that they visit. Stop and pick up some for the last holiday weekend of the summer! Happy Labor Day to all!
