Tasting Smorgasbord a success
COSHOCTON – Eighteen kids from local 4-H clubs and cloverbuds entered their tasty creations in the annual Tasting Smorgasbord at the Coshocton County Fair on Monday, Oct. 5 in six categories: Appetizers, snacks, meat / main dishes, salads / vegetables / fruit, breads / pasta / rice, and desserts. Six judges were chosen to interview each participant before tasting their entry.
Laura Mikulik of the OSU Extension and Karin Moran head the Tasting Smorgasbord each year and said that last year, the event served approximately 100 people. This year was no exception as the line of people grew, long before the event started.
Each 4-H participant received $3, a ribbon for first through fourth places, and a certificate.
“I try to make sure every kid’s a winner,” said Moran. “I make sure every child receives something because they all work hard on their entry, and these kids can really cook.”
Winners were announced at the end, and in addition to ribbons, money, and certificates, the kids were allowed to choose one kitchen item displayed on a table by the stage to take home with them.
Winners in each category were as follows:
Appetizers: First place went to Josey Richard, second place went to Conner Webster, and third place went to Anna Richcreek.
