RSVP recognizes members and welcomes new ones
COSHOCTON – The Coshocton County Senior Center hosted the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Luncheon today, Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Noon. Pat Shryock, county coordinator, introduced Jamie Thomas-Williams, director, and the board members. Don Lain, pastor at Coshocton Nazarene Church, led the invocation. RSVP provided a meal of chicken, baked potatoes, vegetables, dessert, and roll.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program sends volunteers out into the community to non-profit organizations to help where there is need. The RSVP members work in schools as tutors, the museums, libraries, just to name a few.
“I feel that the volunteers are a valued asset in the community,” said Shryock. “I don’t know what the community would do without them.”
After the meal, five-year, 10-year, 15-year, and 20-year members were recognized with a certificate.
Five-year members are: Bess Van Atta, Penny Egler, Michele Fetters, Don McMorris, Mary Lou Babcock, Dorothy Kent, Danny Lamp, Ruth Ann Richissin, Joyce Sees, and Pat Streets.
Ten-year members are Cindy Lapp and Phyllis Knuth.
The 15-year member recognized was Bob Fetters.
Twenty-year members are Irwin Gibson and Jo Gibson.
When asked about a favorite memory while working with RSVP, Irwin Gibson, laughing, commented, “We made ice cream one time and it kept going and kept going. I said, there’s something wrong with it. We’ve got to check it out. They had forgotten to put milk in it.”
New members to the RSVP were also recognized and received a pin. They include: Pat Brunnegraff, Mary Hunt, Irva Nelson, Ruth Barrick, Diana Hampton, James Fletcher, Robert Brems, Mike Kipsinger, Preston Palmer, Alice Wright, Renate Akers, Nancy Beiber, Donna Fouch, Larry Lamp, and Renate Laaper.
“I think I joined just to get out of the house,” said Mary Hunt. “I don’t call this work. I call this fun.”
“I just retired a month ago,” said Diane Hampton. “I wanted to meet people and give back. God’s been good to me and I wanted to give back to Him.”
Fred Wachtel and Jamie Thomas-Williams helped to hand out awards, pins, and door prizes.
RSVP is a United Way Agency and is sponsored by Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland.
The luncheon sponsors included: Corporation for National and Community Service, The United Way, Donna Jones and Coshocton County Memorial Hospital who provided cookies, Wal-Mart, and The Senior Center kitchen staff who served the meal.
