The 164th annual Coshocton County Fair is in the books. Except for a few bits of paper floating down the empty midway, maybe a paper cup here and there, the trophies and ribbons adorning the mantel until the Christmas decorations come out and the trappings of winnings are placed in a child’s bedroom, this year’s fair joins that long uninterrupted list of county fairs that are a part of history. Except for Friday and Saturday the weather was gorgeous. Area businesses, organizations and individuals came out in full force to support the junior fair auction on Thursday evening. It was fantastic to see Mr. Jim Overholt recognized for his many years of service to the fair and the youth of our community.
You can’t ever say enough about the many volunteers that help make the county fair possible. You can’t say enough, especially about the senior fair board, whose members start planning the 2016 Coshocton County Fair as quickly as this one is over; deserve our appreciation for a job well done. Many of these fair board members, and their junior fair board counterparts, don’t get much chance to rest up following the fair as they are employed in the community or are perhaps farmers that need to get the harvest in. Hopefully, that is going well for our area agricultural community. Thank you for what you do. And let’s not forget the fair board office staff! Thank you.
It was a bountiful weekend for sports teams, with all three area high schools winning their football games on Friday night, the Browns pulling out a win over the Ravens, the Buckeyes handling the Terrapins on Saturday at the ‘shoe and even the Cubs evened the series with the Cardinals in baseball. But the Bengals stand alone at the top of the AFC North at 5-0 in a truly improbable win.
This weekend delivers one of my favorite weekends of the entire year to our community with the annual Apple Butter Stirrin’ in Roscoe Village held this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the annual Fall Foliage & Farm Tour held Saturday and Sunday. I encourage you to get out and enjoy yourself and the beautiful fall leaves. You never quite know, of course, where we might be in the level of fall foliage scenery but one thing is always certain on the tour – you get to enjoy some of the best that Coshocton County offers during the drive.
Many people have worked hard in our community to ensure that the Canal Festival queen contest remains solid and a part of the heritage of our community and the festivals. Please thank them when you can.
Speaking of hard work, both the county and the city have made incredible strides to pave our roads, keep the bridges safe and ensure that we have a much smoother ride on many of these roads as winter approaches. Main Street is absolutely wonderful! It is truly a very positive experience and a job well done all the way around. Thank you!
