Commissioners discuss supplemental insurance for county employees
COSHOCTON – The Coshocton County Commissioners met with Michael Zaluski and Mike Franks to discuss the possibility of providing county employees with Colonial Life as a supplemental health and life insurance. After hearing from a variety of insurance companies in October, the commissioners showed an interest in the benefit products that were being offered by Colonial and invited a representative to return to their office to discuss the benefit packages they offer in more detail.
The county is self-funded for health, dental, and life insurance. Their provider is Mutual Health Services, which is a division of Medical Mutual. Colonial will not replace employees’ current insurance, but is designed to be a supplement only, if the employee chooses. The commissioners explained that even if the county decided to use Colonial as supplemental insurance for their employees, the employees would still have the right to purchase additional insurance on their own and/or reject Colonials benefit packages. The representative from Colonial stated that a benefit councilor would need to meet with at least 75 percent of county employees annually either individually or in a group setting to review current policies and help the employee choose what policy best fits their medical needs.
Nothing was decided at this week’s commissioners meeting. It was only an informative meeting with a representative from Colonial.
During the meeting, Doris Frank also submitted and the commissioners signed the investment portfolio and September bank statement.
