Santa Shop gives CES students chance to Christmas shop

COSHOCTON – Jennifer Milligan enjoyed seeing children’s faces light up while they picked out gifts at Coshocton Elementary School’s Santa Shop.
“The kids really enjoy being able to buy something for people in their family,” she said.
The Santa Shop, sponsored by the school’s PTO, was set up in the library Dec. 1-4 and offered students in preschool through sixth grade the opportunity to purchase gifts that ranged in price from $0.25 to $11.50.
Each child was sent home with an envelope for their parents to put money in for shopping and make a list of who they need to shop for.
“We do our best to help the kids stay within the parameters their parents set for them, but what they buy is their choice” said Milligan, who was in charge of the Santa Shop. “We do have volunteers help the little kids shop though.”
They also could have their gifts wrapped.
“That way they can go home and put it under the tree all ready to go,” Milligan said.
Kindergartener Ari Snyder had fun shopping and was happy to have it done.
PTO Volunteer Misty Schillereff was glad she could help Snyder and other students tackle their Christmas shopping.
“It’s fun watching how excited they (the students) get to pick stuff out for their families,” Schillereff said.
The students also are all receiving a special gift this year thanks to an anonymous donation.
“We got a donation last year and gave every student $1 to pick something from the Santa Shop, but we found they weren’t getting something quality,” Milligan said. “This year the donor gave $1,000 so PTO matched that and we joined with Novelty Advertising to get every student something before they leave for Christmas break. It’s going to be pretty cool.”
