Congressman Gibbs gives statement on highway bill passage

| December 3, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bob Gibbs released the following statement after passage of H.R. 22, the FAST Act:

“Today’s vote for the FAST Act is a critical step in maintaining our investments in the nation’s transportation network.  This bipartisan legislation provides states with the long-term certainty needed in planning their infrastructure projects.  We are giving states and local governments more flexibility by converting the Surface Transportation Program into a block grant. Additionally, we are further streamlining the permitting and study process to ensure that critical projects are completed on time and on budget.

I am pleased to see a provision included that supplements the funding of public water infrastructure.  Municipalities across the country are dealing with expensive and necessary improvements to public water systems. The ability to combine WIFIA (Water Infrastructure Funding and Innovation Act) funding with tax-exempt bonds gives cities and counties the ability to affordably address their public health needs.”
