How does a sane person make the interstellar leap from “Black Friday” to “Cyber Monday?” I am going to tell you how of course. With lots and lots of leftovers. I mean, who really has time to cook with so many deals lurking throughout the stores and on websites throughout the land. Turkey sandwiches, turkey pot pie, turkey and gravy on biscuits, turkey salad, turkey hash, turkey a la King or turkey soup. All gone by “Cyber Monday.” Or, according to the USDA, it should be. About four days in the refrigerator is what I saw for leftovers. You can freeze leftovers and thaw them out later. But who really wants frozen – then thawed – turkey?

Of course, I am also trying to write this column on “Cyber Monday” which is challenging at best. Wait, there’s a deal from Dell! Gotta check that out. Nice.

At least the Buckeyes put a clobbering on TTUN. It does make the loss to the boys in green and white somewhat more palatable, but not by much. Where was that team a week earlier we all wonder? There’s a nice deal from Amazon that just popped up.

I watched the Hawkeyes put a clobbering on Nebraska and was impressed. With Iowa that is. The Big Ten championship game between Sparty and Iowa should be a good one. Here’s a good one. Kohl’s just came through with one of their awesome deals – it seems that by using Kohl’s cash, free shipping and other discounts they actually are going to pay me! I like that kind of deal.

Have you binge watched the Hallmark Channel movies yet this year? If I see that commercial and the guy with the black eye one more time I may get sick. There’s a pretty good deal popping up from JC Penney.

I heard over the weekend that Kobe Bryant is retiring at the end of this season. Another deal from Amazon just came through. Not quite what I am looking for.

Speaking of Amazon, has anyone watched “The Man in the High Castle?” This series is being released via Amazon Prime and is based on the book of the same title authored by Philip K. Dick in 1962.

The Columbus Crew has advanced to the MLS title match against the Portland Timbers. The championship match is on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. Good luck Crew! Good deal from Sears.

Okay, by now you get the idea. My frequent mentions of “Cyber Monday” are a little bit cynical and a little bit not. Although most of us now shop online for this or that for convenience of selection, time and effort, our local businesses also need and I dare say, deserve our support.

We’ve written this before but it bears repeating. It’s our local businesses that support the kids’ ball teams, sponsor the ads in the high school yearbook and myriad of sports programs, buy the livestock each year at the junior fair auction and give to a whole host of other community events. Let’s shop local as much as we can this season.
