Ridgewood girls fall in sectional game

ZANESVILLE – In the girls Division III sectionals, St. Clairsville defeated Ridgewood 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, Taryn Barr scored four minutes into the second half to give St. Clairsville the lead.

Carlee Gillispie made it 2-0 with 12:01 to go as a ball slipped away from Ridgewood keeper Sam Moore.

Ridgewood fought back in the final 10 minutes. Anna Powell got free on the outside and shot the ball over the head of keeper Brianna Sowers. Powell’s goal came with 3:48 to go.

Ridgewood had two more chances in the final minutes but could not answer with the equalizer.

St. C held a 14-11 advantage in shots.

Moore had eight saves and Alexis Zimmerman had tallied one for Ridgewood in goal. Sowers had seven for St. C.

Ridgewood finished the season at 10-4-2, and posted the best record in the history of the program.

St. C advances to play West Muskingum at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
