The strategies to win played out like a New York Philharmonic solo on a Stradivarius violin. Contestants psyched themselves up well before the competition started by stretching and sharing good natured jibes with the other competitors. Known celebrities proffered comments as the anxious crowd watched and waited for the contest to begin. Once the contest started, the players jostled back and forth to gain an edge. There was no drafting or Air Force flyover on this day – because this was the annual atomic wings challenge being held at Chili Crossroads Bible Church. Now, there were some cows grazing in a pasture near Chili and there could be same thing outside Daytona somewhere. You never know.
You may have thought–may have–it was really tough writing a comparison that would lead you astray– that I was referencing the Daytona 500. Nope. I did hear the final dozen or so laps while on the way to Chili and saw the too close to shave finish replay. Several times actually. Very cool.
The United Way breakfast last week was a true display of how folks in Coshocton County came together to make the campaign a success – being 98% to goal is a huge accomplishment and AK Steel employees and the company deserve a big thanks for their significant contribution to this year’s campaign.
What are the Cavs doing? Does this make sense to anyone? I know that they are smarter than me for sure so maybe making a trade at this point in the season is their way of making a statement of some kind. I am just not sure what kind. So the Cavs picked up Channing Frye from the Magic in a three team trade that eventually saw Anderson Varejao go to Golden State. Channing Frye is considered a shooter and they did save a lot of coin by trading away Varejao and a later first round pick to Portland. The Trailblazers promptly put Varejao on waivers and the Warriors picked him up. Talk about playoff motivation. Varejao has it now.
ESPN analysts feel that the trade is only a marginal one to help the Cavs in the playoffs. Because after all, that is what it is all about.
In more round ball action, the fifth ranked lady Buckeyes had another dominating win routing Illinois while the men eked out an overtime victory against . . . Nebraska. It was considered a must win for the Buckeyes to have a shot at making March Madness.
It was a really nice touch to have an ice sculpture of Cheryl Triplett-Wantuck at the annual ice carving sponsored by Our Towne Coshocton that was held at the court square on Saturday, Feb. 20. Our community is fortunate to have some really dedicated folks that continue to volunteer their time and energy to move us forward.
Senior Bryce Philabaum of the Coshocton Redskins is headed to state in swimming. Way to go Bryce!
The movie “Risen” was third at the box office this past weekend with $11.8 million.
