Annual student research forum to be held March 9
NEWARK – Students at The Ohio State University at Newark will be presenting research on topics ranging from the effectiveness of music therapy to quantum mechanics at the 12th Annual Student Research Forum on Wednesday, March 9.
“We received student research presentation proposals from psychology, English, physics, history and sociology students,” said Assistant Professor Nathanial Swigger, who is a co-organizer of the event. We will have about 20 student presenters during this year’s forum.”
The forum will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. in the John Gilbert Reese Center. The awards ceremony will begin at 4:15 p.m. The forum is an opportunity for students to present their school-funded research before a diverse panel of judges. The panel includes Ohio State Newark faculty across multiple disciplines who will give valuable feedback to benefit student learning experiences. For some students, it also serves as effective practice in a formal setting before they present at larger conferences like the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, the annual meeting of the Midwest Psychology Association and others. Other students whose research is not yet complete will be proposing research topics to increase awareness of their subject matter.
Student participants can give a poster presentation or an oral presentation. The poster presentation is the slightly less formal of the two types, where student researchers will be displaying posters and giving brief overviews while face-to-face with judges. Meanwhile, the oral presentation demands that students spend about 15 to 20 minutes providing well-rehearsed presentations from a podium. Each will have time reserved at the end for question and answer sessions.
This event is free to attend and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
