RVHS encouraging public to participate in blood drive
WARSAW – River View High School is hosting a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23 and appointments for the general public are available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The River View High School National Honor Society will provide food for all donors. Call 740-824-3524 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. to schedule an appointment.
Each year the American Red Cross High School Scholarship Program offers scholarship money to high schools who host at least one Red Cross blood drive during the school year. The amount of scholarship money is based on the number of units of blood collected.
River View’s goal for the year was to collect at least 201 units of blood. They have three bloodmobiles each school year and at their fall bloodmobile collected 89 units of blood. Unfortunately, due to weather, the Jan. 13 blood drive was canceled. This means they are likely to fall short of that 201 goal unless they collect at least 112 units of blood on the 23.
“We need the help of community members to help us reach this goal,” said Shelley McPeek, RN, school nurse for the River View Local School District. “River View will receive $2,500 in scholarship money if we collect at least 112 units. This money will be awarded to one to five graduating seniors (increments of $250) who has been active participants in the American Red Cross.”
