Vendor Updates

Flying Pig Farm

Spring is in the air! We’re excited to try out our garden after feeding the cows their round bales in it all winter. We can already see how the soil has improved by the added compost and manure. Now to move them into a pasture rotation and add some babies so we can provide sustainable grass fed beef to LB in the near future. This week we have white, wheat and mini cinnamon raisin bread; cranberry scones; and cherry, blueberry, blackberry and strawberry rhubarb pies. We also restocked our red raspberry jam! We’ll bring fresh bread and pies on Wed.

Keene Creek Farm

We were busy, busy picking up pork from the butcher last week and now many of your favorite cuts are back in stock at Local Bounty. There are butter and garlic marinated loin chops, naked loin chops (boneless), bulk breakfast sausage, bacon and little sausage links. We also restocked some cheese brats and salt, pepper and sage bulk sausage. We actually use two different processors to get this variety of products for you – one in Adamsville and one in Berlin. On the farm we are getting ready for two more of our sows to farrow in the coming weeks. The little piggies that arrived at the end of January were weaned a couple of weeks ago and are growing like pigs do. We hope to get out into our hoop house soon and plant some kale and lettuce – bring on spring!

Loveridge House

Did you know that almond butter is a notable nondairy source of bone-building calcium and it has a respectable 11% of the recommended daily amount in 2 Tbsp. You also get vitamin E, a key ingredient for healthy skin and hair. A favorite snack at our house is to take pieces of celery, fill them with almond butter or smokey almond butter, put chopped almonds on top along with chopped dried mango.
Tom is coming over to Local Bounty on Tuesday morning to restock our shelves. Come on out and shop at your year round farmers market at Local Bounty

Mullet Apiaries

– Ahh, the buzz in the trees this past weekend! The bees are already very busy finding pollen in the maple flowers, the coltsfoot and other early bloomers. Pollen is an essential food to the bees, providing important nutrients. They have an enzyme in their abdomens that can break through the tough outer shell of pollen grains. They then use it to make royal jelly and bee bread for feeding the queen and the larvae. And in the process, of course, they are pollinating! Our shelves are restocked and ready for you at the Local Bounty. One of my favorites for breakfast is Flying Pig’s wheat bread with Loveridge House’s smoked almond butter, our honey, and a sprinkling of cinnamon for my heart. Yum!

Bob’s Pickle Patch/ Verda’s Hens

We will be bringing in eggs Tuesday afternoon late this week.  Chickens are enjoying the warm weather.  It’s getting harder and harder to get them to go in at night.  Giving them a sunflower seed snack at night gets most of them in.  Sunflower seeds are a great snack because they contain a lot of protein. Here’s your “did you know?” trivia fact for today:  75% of what the laying hen eats goes into egg production. Each medium egg has about 6 grams of protein.
