There is a box of Peeps® – apparently this is a much bigger deal than I thought – sitting on our kitchen counter. Their hurtful little dots of eyes stare up at me wondering, “Why, why?” did you attack us, the poor little defenseless puffs of yellowy goodness that we are they quip. Further research caused me to question my abilities as a “writer” even more. “Always gluten free, fat free” proclaims the packaging. Ten chicks to a package, 28 calories per chick, with 140 calories per serving. That’s right – a serving is actually FIVE of the little buggers. Count ‘em – five. There is even one gram of protein. And they are even made in the good old U.S.A. Enjoy.

It’s going to be a fun ride from now until the Presidential nominations. NO, it’s not. Attacking the wives? What’s next, the children, pets? Give me a break. Let’s stick to the topics gentlemen; that would be ISIS, the economy, health care, taxes, our crumbling infrastructure, our military, our veterans and the shabby care some of them are receiving – or not at all in some cases – funding social security (yes, so Mark can get his share – sorry I am selfish on this one) and more. I also want to hear – and see – some specific plans of action on what these candidates are going to do regarding the above. You better have a plan of action. And that’s on both sides of this thing. At least Bernie says what he wants to do whether it’s feasible or not.

Let’s also be clear on this. I would prefer that we don’t have a dishonest person without solid morals as our leader. Is that too much to ask? Maybe. But at least it’s specific and understandable.

So I got lucky on my prediction that Syracuse would make the final four. I think they and UNC were my only two to make it. The comeback by the Orange will go down in NCAA March Madness history as one of the greatest comebacks ever. Why Wisconsin did not call a timeout (they had two remaining) instead of trying to dribble through two defenders is beyond me. It should have been called from the bench. The game is won by the Badgers if they call the timeout. But it’s real easy to be a Monday morning disappointed fan writing what could have been. Easy but not fun.

I put off writing about someone a couple of weeks ago that was very special to me and to The Beacon. I just was not able to come up with the words that he deserves and probably still have not done so. I will miss David Hollingsworth so very much that just writing these words brings a tear to my eye. When I heard the news of his passing I am not ashamed to admit that it was – and still is – heartbreaking. David would often send me little quips and emails about this, that or the other – his sense of humor was spot on and will be greatly missed. His absence in this world is evident but he is in a better place. Thank you David for your friendship and for sharing your humor and insight with The Beacon and myself. And in a truly fitting act of unselfishness for David, he asked that his body be used for medical research. How very David that is.
