Roscoe Village to hold lectures

COSHOCTON – Roscoe Village begins the 2016 Bicentennial of Caldersburgh, also known as Old Roscoe with two exciting lectures. Alice Hoover opens the lecture series with “Tales of Old Roscoe.” The program begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 10 in the Visitor Center Theatre. She portrays Lydia Brown, the Brickmaker’s wife of Old Roscoe. Her tales include stories of a circuit rider, the Underground Railroad, a fire, some lawsuits and economic ups and downs as well as everyday life in the village.

Hoover is a graduate with honors from Otterbein University. Her husband Richard is a retired United Methodist pastor. They have two sons. Alice taught elementary school for 25 years, retiring from Coshocton Lincoln Elementary. She is the organist at the Presbyterian Church in Coshocton. As an historical dramatist she portrays 30 Biblical and historical women.

An additional lecture is scheduled for Sunday, April 24. Professional Storyteller, Chris Hart will portray Noah Swayne who was a local attorney responsible for the name change from Caldersburgh to Roscoe. Swayne later became the Supreme Court Justice appointed by President Lincoln. The lecture will take place at 2 p.m. in the Visitor Center Theater.
