Piano competition held
COSHOCTON – The 28th annual Edward E. Montgomery Jr. Piano Competition was held on Sunday evening, April 3 at the Triple Locks Theatre with four student finalists competing in the junior division. Pictured from left are: Claire Killiany, who performed Waltz, Op. 64, No. 1 by Chopin; Leah Brinker, who performed The Horseman, Album for the Young, Op. 68 by Schumann; Mirra Williams, who performed Le Petit Negre by Debussy; and Jakob Reveal, who performed Prelude in E Minor, Op. 29, No. 4 by Chopin. Killiany was announced the winner and was presented with a $250 cash award from the Montgomery Foundation by Executive Director Linda Scott. “I’m really excited,” Killiany said. “I’m kind of surprised; they all did a really good job. The piece was by Chopin and half of it is really kind of fast and the middle part is kind of slow and more dreamish.” Beacon photo by Mark Fortune
