Well-known organist to perform at Coshocton Presbyterian Church
COSHOCTON — Historians, musicians, and scholars will all be delighted to meet Dr. Ann Marie Rigler who will perform an organ concert on Sunday, May 1, at the Coshocton Presbyterian Church on their Taylor and Boody Tracker organ. The organ recital begins at 3 p.m. and is free to attend. The concert is part of the Coshocton Dogwood Festival ~ A week-long community celebration of visual and performing arts.
Rigler is Professor of Music and College Organist at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, where she plays weekly for Chapel services and teaches applied organ, music history, class piano, and courses in Christian hymnody and worship practices. She also enjoys serving as co-organist for her own congregation, Colonial Church (United Church of Christ) in Prairie Village, Kansas.
She maintains an active schedule as a solo recitalist, speaker, choral and chamber musician, and adjudicator, with recital and lecture presentation credits at prestigious venues throughout the United States. As a recitalist, she is especially committed to offering programs that represent a wide variety of faith traditions, and she has recorded a program titled ‘God of Many Names’ on an organ at Penn State University. She performs as organist for Musica Vocale and the Liberty Community Chorus, and in 2012 appeared as both solo organist and accompanist at sites throughout the United Kingdom.
Dr. Rigler is a person of broad interests, doing research in both historical and contemporary organ pedagogy the outcome of which has produced her presentations ranging from lecture-recitals on 19th-century American church music, organ teaching, and the theology of Henry Ward Beecher to the video-based ‘Conversations and Legacies: Exploring late 20th-century American organ pedagogy through oral history’. The American Guild of Organists released for sale the DVD of her national convention presentation, ‘How We Got Here from There: Trends in Pedagogy, 1860-1960’.
At the organ concert on May 1, Rigler will also share history of many of the pieces she will be playing.
