Richard H. Wright
COOPERDALE – Richard H. “Dick” Wright, 89, of Cooperdale passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus following a hemorrhagic stroke.
He was born in Coshocton County on Dec. 11, 1926 to the late Lawrence and Thelma (Moore) Wright. He served in U.S. Army Specialized Unit, Cannon Company, 20th Infantry 6th Division, in South Pacific and Korea. He worked as truck driver and diesel mechanic for 18 years for Ward E. Lanning Trucking of Coshocton. He retired in 1989 as a mechanic from the Buckeye Fabric Company of Coshocton. He taught Auto Mechanics at River View High School 1970-71, and drove school bus for the River View District. He was a member of the Cooperdale Nazarene church for over 60 years, where he was active in youth group leadership and other church activities. He was also a Coshocton Public Library volunteer.
Over the years enjoyed fishing, boating, horseshoes, golf, bowling and many other interests. He devoted his life to helping others and caring for his family. His enthusiastic love of life and people brought happiness to countless friends and acquaintances.
He is survived by Mildred (Miller) Wright, his wife of 63 years, whom he married on April 25, 1953; his children, Mark (Pam) Wright of Raymond, Phil (Diane) Barcus of Powell, and Joy (Barcus)Vance of Gambier; five grandchildren, Tony Vance, Brandon Barcus, Christopher (Gena) Wright, Carly Barcus, and Matthew Wright; two great-grandchildren, Riley Vance and Aubree Wright; a sister Margaret (Wright) Crozier; and a half-brother, Jack Hittle; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Wright; and a half-sister, Norma (Gray) Rae.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with Pastor Buck Traylor officiating. Burial will follow in West Carlisle Cemetery, with graveside military rites performed by the Coshocton Co. Veterans Honor Guard.
