COSHOCTON – The streets of Cleveland were packed for the Cavaliers NBA Championship parade and in the middle of all the craziness Cody Croy was picked for the surprise of a lifetime.

Cody, who was watching the parade with his dad Matt and brothers Connor and Casey, was lifted up onto Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith’s float.

“He was just standing there watching and a police officer picked him up and handed him to J.R. Smith,” said Wendy Croy, Cody’s mother.

The moment was caught by a television crew and through the power of social media, Wendy knew all about it shortly after it happened even though she had stayed at home.

“It all happened so fast and Matt didn’t realize the TV crew was right there and they were live,” Wendy said. “There were so many people downtown that we hadn’t talked all day because he couldn’t get texts to go out.  People saw it on TV and started calling me and tagging me on Facebook. By the time I talked to Matt it was all over Facebook.”

Cody, who is 9 and will be in the third grade at Ridgewood Elementary School, was surprised, but didn’t get too excited about the whole event.

“It was cool,” he said. “He asked me my name and I thought to myself, ‘he’s got a lot of tattoos.’”

The whole family is Cleveland fans and Cody even has his room decorated in a Cavaliers theme.

“He never missed a game of the playoffs,” Wendy said.

The Cavaliers series with the Golden State Warriors went seven games and Cody was just a little bit nervous for them.

“I was sweating,” he said.

Cody said it was awesome that his Dad took them to the Cavaliers celebration parade.

“He was just up there real quick for maybe 45 seconds, but the short video of it went crazy,” Wendy said.
